The School Board of Escambia County, Florida, convened in Special Meeting at 1:04 p.m. in the Board Room at the Administrative Building, 215 West Garden Street, with the following present:

Vice Chairman: Mrs. Cary Stidham

Members: Dr. Elmer Jenkins

Mrs. Vanette Webb

Superintendent of Schools: Mr. Jim May

Mrs. Stidham chaired the meeting which was called to order at 1:04 p.m. It was noted that Board Members Hal Mason and John DeWitt were out-of-town.

I. ADOPTION OF AGENDA

Motion by Dr. Jenkins, second by Mrs. Webb, to adopt the agenda, was unanimously approved.

II. ITEMS FROM THE BOARD

CALIFORNIA ACHIEVEMENT TEST (CAT) SCORES UPDATE

Mr. Gene Pettis, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, shared overall CAT scores.

Dr. Wes Davis, Director, Evaluation Services, interpreted various terms for purposes of clarification. Following the report, a brief question and answer session was conducted.

III. ADJOURNMENT

Prior to adjournment, Mr. May stated that another special meeting will be needed next week, possibly

next Friday, May 14, 1999, to update the Board on information regarding the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) and Florida Writes.
