ESCAMBIA COUNTY, FLORIDA



MINUTES, FEBRUARY 22, 1999



The School Board of Escambia County, Florida, convened in Special Meeting at 8:03 a.m. in the Board Room at the Administrative Building, 215 West Garden Street, with the following present:



Chairman: Dr. Hal Mason (entered the meeting at 8:06 a.m.)



Vice Chairman: Mrs. Cary Stidham



Members: Dr. John DeWitt

Dr. Elmer Jenkins (entered the meeting at 8:06 a.m.)

Mrs. Vanette Webb (entered the meeting at 8:27 a.m.)



Superintendent of Schools: Mr. Jim May



I. ADOPTION OF AGENDA

Mrs. Stidham chaired the meeting which was called to order at 8:03 a.m. There being no objection, adoption of the agenda was unanimously approved.



II. PRESENTATION OF SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLANS

The following schools presented their school improvement plans and outcomes for the 1997-98 school year, and their plans and goals for the 1998-99 school year:

Bellview Elementary

Bellview Middle

Beulah Elementary

Hellen Caro Elementary

Longleaf Elementary

Pine Forest High

Pleasant Grove Elementary

Edgewater Elementary

Escambia High

Montclair Elementary

Myrtle Grove Elementary

Navy Point Elementary

Sherwood Elementary

Warrington Elementary

Warrington Middle

West Pensacola Elementary

Following each presentation, Board Members made comments and asked questions regarding individual plans. Superintendent May noted since these presentations were done separately, he would encourage the schools to follow up and share information with each other on the many positive approaches and methodologies being used to emphasize student achievement.

There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned at 12:14 p.m.
