The School Board of Escambia County, Florida, convened in Special Meeting at 8:05 a.m. in the Board Room at the Administrative Building, 215 West Garden Street, with the following present:

Chairman: Dr. Elmer Jenkins

Vice Chairman: Dr. John DeWitt (entered the Meeting at 9:00 a.m.)

Members: Mr. Jim C. Bailey

Mrs. Barbara Morris

Mrs. Vanette Webb

Superintendent of Schools: Mr. Jim May (entered the Meeting at 9:00 a.m.)

I. ADOPTION OF AGENDA

Motion made by Mr. Bailey and seconded by Mrs. Morris, to adopt the agenda. The motion carried 4-0.

II. PRESENTATION OF SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLANS

The following schools presented their school improvement plans and outcomes for the 1996-97 school year, and their plans and goals for the 1997-98 school year:

Superintendent May noted since these presentations were done separately, he would encourage the schools to follow up and share information with each other on the many positive approaches and methodologies being used to emphasize student achievement.

The Board took a recess for lunch at 12:10 p.m. The meeting reconvened at 1:10 p.m. with the Board Members and Deputy Superintendent Jerome Watson present. Following each presentation, Board Members made comments and asked questions regarding individual plans.
